Beautiful weather, fantastic company, great softball competition and wonderful support = our goal achieved.

We were aiming to raise $5000 for the weekend, through our monster raffle, and we achieved that goal! Along with donations from Toowoomba Warriors (every year, thank you!) and this year the Softball Queensland Schoolgirls (thank you girls), we raised just under $5500!

We started selling tickets well before the tournament knowing full well that we ‘masters’ aren’t as fresh after several games in a day like we used to be, meaning walking the park wasn’t something we actually looked forward to! However, Anne Vogler took to it like a fish to water and walked every day, along with several team mates, and sold a whole bunch, ensuring we reached our target.

Special thanks to Graham McColm, Jen from Bizzare Framing, Robyn Tallis, Cheryl-Lee Godfrey, Jodie-Lee King, and Caboolture Warriors who also took tickets off us and sold on our behalf. Thank you to Softball Queensland for again supporting our cause, and not only promoting our raffle, but again selling our merchandise in the SQ merchandise tent.

The winners are listed below……

Trish – Socceroos jersey

Emma – Sonny Bill Williams All Black Jersey

Kim Carsburg – SBW Rugby Ball

James Dorman – fitness pack

Candice Clay – Tupperware knives AND wine & chocolates

Jayne Harding – $100 Westfield voucher

Bartons – 2 x jewellery set and Bleet art plate

Matt Denkell – jewellery set

Steve Armitage – Seafood voucher

Bartons – Seafood voucher –

Sue Mack c/- Tigers – Wine & chocolates

Seiby – $50 Woolworths card

Jo Lewis – $25 scratchies

Julie Black – Breville toaster

P4AC masters team won Div 1, in a really even competition. It’s heartening to know that so many ladies still play this game and so well, even though we are all over 35! Thanks Giants, Renegades and Southside Stingers on providing some really tough, competitive, but fun games. I am not sure about playing 9 games in 3 days though?? Just joking, it was great and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

If you would like to see some photos from the weekend (thanks Rose), click here.

Until next year………

On Friday the 21st June, we were incredibly fortunate to be invited to the Brisbane Broncos Old Boy’s luncheon. This year the Old Boys were celebrating the back to back premiership in 1993.

The Old Boys have this luncheon every year – they not only celebrate the Broncos achievements and their time together at the broncos, they also raise funds for charities. This year we were one of the selected charities that benefit from this day and we cannot thank Old Boy’s President, Bobby Cutmore and the Old Boys enough. Not only were we the VIP guests of the luncheon, where they made us the centre of attention (literally, with our yellow balloons) they donated a massive $5000 to us. This is the single biggest donation we have ever received, when all we had to do was attend a function. You can imagine how excited we were! In fact, so overwhelmed was Leigh when called on stage to receive the cheque that she was speechless!

The emotion shown on receiving the cheque was all that Bob wanted to see – thankfully

We hope to build on this relationship and continue with our mission in helping researchers prevent cancer and find a cure as well as assisting cancer patients and their families in their time of need!

Brisbane Old boys – we salute you!

Updated 11th May, 2013

Broncos Insider have a TV show dedicated to the Broncos Football Club/Team and we featured on it! This link is for our 2015 game but it shows some highlights from 2013.

Well what a day! Rains played havoc again keeping our numbers down but the ones who braved the weather were certainly treated to a fantastic spectacle.

It seemed as though it was going to the same plan as previous years – meaning a draw, until Kelly McKellar-Nathan delivered a nice ‘sit up there to be smashed’ slowpitch pitch to Ikie who launched it over the fence to give the Broncos a 14-11 win. Again the girls were too kind – I even tried to pump them up before the game to show the boys how to really play softball. Even though we were at the softball grounds, it would appear the Broncos universal popularity had them as favourites and the favourites won, to everybody’s delight.[singlepic id=1107 w=320 h=240 float=]

I had Ikie as my MVP and the most fun to watch, he certainly put on a show for us and Locky showed his skills by snatching a line drive catch at 3rd base (with is bare hand). Alf, Locky, Ben and Gordo all had a pitch and the worlds best softballer, Stacey Porter, even tried her hand at pitching (she shouldn’t have – the men scored about 6 runs off her (we still love you Porter))

The men were Allan Langer, Gorden Tallis, Darren Lockyer, Michael Hancock, Michael Devere, Ben Ikin, Steve Renouf (my favourite), and Kerrod Walters. Lucky auction winner was Nathan Ah Boo. As per usual, Tyleisha Dunn does her part to help the men – thanks guys!

Ladies were Stacey Porter (current Aus captain), Melanie Roche (4 time Olympian), Brooke Wilkins (3 times Olympian), Kim Cooper (Olympics), Kelly McKellar-Nathan (world champs silver medal), Judy Young, Anne Vogler, Kelli Oates (former Qld star, stepped in for injured Haylea Petrie), coached by Olympic coach Fabian Barlow and auction winner Norelle Thomas.

A great day, with all the wonderful raffle prizes being claimed by the lucky winners.

So many photos too, so click to have a look. If you want to have a look at just a few, check out our gallery. [nggallery id=21]

A massive thank you to each and every one of YOU who contributed to the day – I can’t list you all because there were so many of you – you know who you are and I am eternally grateful

To Carol McKellar, Redsox and Saints softball club, thank you for your kind donations!

Leigh
