Play for a Cure’s Pink Night Out

On Saturday 14th August 2010 Leigh and I travelled out to the Central Queensland Town of Biloela to attend a “Girls Night Out”, the first official function under the banner of “Play for a Cure”.

Play for a Cure – Girls Night Out was the product of three inspirational women – Rochelle, Terese & Jenny – who worked endless hours over many months to create a magical night of great fun and happiness, bringing together tremendous community spirit yet delivering a powerful message to all women about the awareness of early detection, prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

Pink was the theme for the night and true to form, the ladies of Biloela were up for the challenge and delivered in fine fashion.  From pink slippers with pink pj’s, pink wigs & pink wings to pink ladys, pink nuns and pink pick-a-boxes!!

The fabulous partners of these special ladies accessorised in pink hard hats sending us all their own heartfelt message!

Presentation was second to none and the Bowlo had been transformed into a mystical pink wonderland which set the mood for the night and everyone was in fine spirits.

Throughout the evening we were thoroughly entertained by Bronwyn our most courageous MC who has just come through the other side of her own personal battle with Breast Cancer – well done Bronwyn you did an amazing job!

With much trepidation Leigh gave her first official P4AC speech and did so with flying colours.  I was so proud of you Leigh! It’s not easy putting your feelings out there for all to hear and sometimes raw emotion can take a hold when we least expect but that just reminds us all of the passion behind your mission and I love you for it.

Beautiful Chris… what can I say – you have had such an amazing journey so far and we thank you and your husband for sharing your story.  You have made such a difference to every single one of us I am sure!  Awakening us to things we need to hear but yet in fear of hearing them and giving us all a little push right where its needed most.  Whilst I was reduced to tears, your strength was deafening, your spirit breathtaking and your smile imprinted in our hearts forever…  Thank you!

Gifts were given out from the get-go and prizes in the multi draw raffle and best dressed were awarded – nobody left the evening without taking something with them – that was such a nice touch!

Bras were turned into unique pieces of art and the judging of this creative collection was probably even more unique!  Madonna had made an appearance strutting her pointy bits, but was soon overshadowed by the Swedish milking booby maid …  make of that what you will!

All in all it was a fantastic evening with many belly laughs!

A portion of the funds raised from this evening are being utilised to make new dressing gowns for the breast screening clinic – gowns that are bright, vibrant and uplifting!

To all the ladies that were in attendance at the Biloela P4AC Girls Night Out – thank you so much for your support and generosity.  To Rochelle, Terese, Jenny, Bronwyn, Chris and partners – awesome achievement ladies, thank you for allowing P4AC to be a part of your inspirational evening and contributing to our fundraising venture for the Cancer Council Queensland.

UPDATE 18th August, 2010

Play for a Cure will be receiving $1672.50 from the night which of course will be turned over to CCQ – it will be banked through our CancerFree Challenge page – check it out by clicking here
